How to Avoid Fatigue at Work
Fatigue is a common issue many workers face and can be a result of many underlying issues. It can also be very dangerous. 13% of all workplace injuries are caused by fatigue. Staying engaged and energized can not only make you feel better but also keep you safe. Check out these quick tips for avoiding fatigue:
1. Focus on Sleep
Sleep may seem obvious when trying to fix fatigue at work, but it is often overlooked by many people as they set their daily routines. Getting enough good quality sleep can help prevent that afternoon slump and keep you safe. Try to get 7-9 hours of good quality sleep every night
2. Eat Well
Food can also be another factor that contributes to fatigue. If you are not fueling your body properly, it will not function well enough to keep you alert on the job. Make sure you are getting a good balance of protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fats to keep you full and focused for your entire shift.
3. Stay hydrated
Fatigue can also be a symptom of dehydration. It is important to make sure you are getting enough water, especially during the summer months or if you work in a hot environment. Drinking water can help you feel more energized and focused.
4. Move Around
It can be easy to stay very sedentary at work if your job does not require you to move around at all. Use your breaks at work to walk around and increase your blood flow instead of sitting and checking your phone.
5. Stay focused
During a long shift, you may find yourself letting your mind wander which is a symptom of fatigue and can be very dangerous. Try to keep your mind focused on the task you are working on, while also being mindful of your surroundings. Not only will you be more productive, but you will also be helping to protect yourself and your co-workers.
