Product Sales Engineer: Rockford, IL

Our client is seeking an experienced Product Sales Engineer to support customers and the Sales team with practical, application-driven engineering solutions. This is not a traditional sales role. It is an opportunity for a hands-on machinery professional who can understand how a customer’s equipment works, ask the right technical questions, troubleshoot application concerns, and help develop the right solution for the machine and its performance requirements. The Product Sales Engineer will serve as a technical liaison among customers, Sales, Engineering, and Manufacturing. The role supports applications involving machine tools, industrial automation, robotics, material handling, packaging equipment, specialty machinery, and other precision motion systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Work directly with customers to understand their machines, applications, performance requirements, operating conditions, and technical challenges
Evaluate application requirements including loads, speeds, duty cycles, accuracy, service life, mounting configurations, lubrication, operating environment, and overall machine configuration
Review customer drawings, specifications, machine concepts, and technical documentation to identify requirements, potential concerns, and product opportunities
Provide advanced technical support to the Sales team through product selection, application guidance, technical recommendations, and customer support
Troubleshoot customer applications and field issues by evaluating equipment, operating conditions, and product performance, then recommending practical solutions
Participate in customer site visits for application reviews, troubleshooting, installation support, and other technical needs
Serve as the technical connection between customers, Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, and other internal teams so requirements are clearly communicated and addressed
Collaborate with Design Engineering on product development and custom application projects
Maintain strong knowledge of the organization’s products, manufacturing capabilities, and application requirements to communicate effectively with customers and internal teams

Skills & Experience:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field strongly preferred;
Experience: 10-15+ years of experience in machine design, industrial automation, machine tools, motion control, robotics, special machinery, or related equipment, required
Knowledge: Strong mechanical aptitude & practical understanding of machinery, required
Software: ERP systems and Microsoft Office or similar software, required
